Emmanuella Guenova is a Full Professor of Dermatology and the designated Chair of the University Institute and Clinic for Immunodermatology at Johannes Kepler University Linz, effective April 2025. As a clinician-scientist with a profound interest in skin biology and the pathogenic mechanisms underlying skin inflammation and cancer, Emmanuella’s research centers on the intricate interactions between innate and adaptive immune responses against “non-self” elements, including pathogens and cancer cells.

Originally from Sofia, she completed her medical degree and MD at Eberhard Karl University in Tübingen, Germany, followed by a PhD in Biochemistry at the Medical University of Sofia, Bulgaria. Her translational research has advanced understanding of type 2 cytokines in innate immunity, exploring their potential as immunomodulatory targets for treating inflammatory skin diseases and skin cancers. Emmanuella also investigates the cellular mechanisms underlying cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders, particularly cutaneous T- cell lymphomas like mycosis fungoides and Sézary syndrome.

Between 2010 and 2012, Emmanuella served as a postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School (Boston, USA), focusing on immune regulation in immunocompromised patients and utaneous lymphomas. From 2013 to 2019, she directed the clinical program for lymphoproliferative skin diseases and co-led the outpatient dermatology clinic at the University Hospital Zurich (USZ). Since 2019, she has been an Associate Professor at the University of Lausanne, where she directed the Diagnostic and Precision Dermatology Unit at the University Hospital of Lausanne’s Department of Dermatology until April 2025.

Her work has earned numerous international accolades, including an appointment as Profesora Honorífica at the Department of Medicine, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Spain.
